One way to buy time before an ambulance arrives is to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR. The sooner you perform CPR on someone in cardiac arrest (no breathing, no heartbeat), the greater the chance of successful resuscitation. CPR is one link in what the American Heart Association calls the 'chain of survival'. The chain of survival is a series of actions that, when performed consistently, give a person with a heart attack the best chance of survival. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a set of actions aimed at providing oxygen and blood flow to the body during cardiac arrest. We have created this simple step-by-step guide. Imagine the situation. You are walking in a park and suddenly notice a person lying on the ground. What should you do to help the victim?
